Strong black tea sweetened with condensed milk and evaporated milk. Customers often say exactly how sweet and how strong they want it. Plain green tea, on the other hand, is usually free on every table.

Serves 2 10 min

Ingredients

  • 500 ml water
  • 3 tablespoons strong loose black tea, or 4 tea bags
  • 4 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 tablespoons evaporated milk

Method

  1. Bring the water to the boil in a small pan and add the tea.
  2. Turn the heat down and simmer for about 5 minutes, until the tea is very dark and strong.
  3. Put 2 tablespoons of condensed milk and 2 tablespoons of evaporated milk in each cup.
  4. Strain the hot tea into the cups, stir well and taste. Add more condensed milk for a sweeter cup or more evaporated milk for a creamier one.
Made it at home? Tick it off and it goes into your kitchen passport.

Tea shops were brought to Burma by the Indian community during British rule, and today they are where friends meet, read the news and eat breakfast.
